Replica of a early human skull model discovered in Rhodesia 1921, estimated to be 150,000 to 300,000 years old.
This anthropological skull replica of the Broken Hill or Kabwe skull model has been carefully cast from the original specimen which is kept at the Institute of Anthropology and Human Genetics for Biologists at the Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe University in Germany. This Broken Hill skull (VP754/1 / 1001297) also includes a relief map on the pedestal stand which shows the geographical area where the original specimen was found.
This early human skull was found in an iron ore working at Broken Hill in North West Rhodesia (now Kabwe in Zambia). It is the subject of some debate, being classified as both Homo sapiens rhodesiensis and Homo erectus rhodensiensis as it has features that indicate both classifications. This has also led to debates regarding the age of the skull. This anthropological skull was discovered in 1921 and is estimated to be from 150,000 to 300,000 years old. Previous estimates had suggested between 40,000 and 60,000 years old.
