Students can practice rectal examinations and diagnose prostate conditions in four different stages.
This prostate examination simulator by 3B Scientific can be used for clinical training as a demonstration model for digital rectal examinations or DRE.
The prostate exam trainer is supplied with four different prostate conditions to facilitate training in professional palpation methods so that trainees acquire the skills needed to complete rectal examinations. The model simulates a rectal examination closely, enabling the student to insert their index finger into the trainer, and palpate the rear part of the prostate. This is where most prostate carcinomas are found. The student must then assess the shape, consistency and position of the prostate, feeling for irregularities, nodes and induration on the usually smooth surface of the prostate.
The prostate training model includes the following stages:
- normal prostate
- prostate carcinoma at an early stage
- benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH
- advanced prostate carcinoma.
This training simulator includes a corresponding transrectal sonographic image for each condition. The pictures cannot be seen by the student when the model is being used.
